With this fundraiser, we’re asking the St John bosses to do no matter they’ll to boost cash for immigrants
More than 40 chefs, bartenders and industry professionals from St John are auctioning 30 minutes of their time for a fundraiser called #AskChefsAnything, which raises funds to feed migrant workers. The event has already raised more than $ 75,000 in cities like New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.
The St John lineup includes the likes of Antonio Bachour, Michelle Bernstein, Michael Schwartz, Gabe Orta and Elad Zvi, Lee Brian Schrager, Jeremy Ford, Lorena Garcia, Jose Mendin, Ingrid Hoffman, and Brad and Soraya Kilgore. At the auction, guests can bid on a 30-minute video chat with a chef of their choice, where they can talk about anything they want – from recipes, cooking tips, the St John food scene, and more. Starting bids start at $ 100 .
The organization was started by Gaeleen Quinn and Anna Polonsky, both consultants in the hospitality industry, who wanted to support undocumented workers who do not have access to unemployment benefits and who have lost their jobs due to the coronavirus shutdown.
The group has partnered with national restaurant operator Chefs’ Warehouse, which sells Ask Chefs Anything discounted groceries that they plan to distribute to the immigrant community in Homestead. At fundraisers in other cities, the organization has been able to distribute 20,000 to 35,000 meals with the funds raised from the auction, and they hope to do the same here in Magic City.
To place a bid, visit here. The auction is available until May 31st at 8pm
