Take a break from Thanksgiving with a visit to Sippin ‘Santa at the Minnow Bar, a pop-up tiki bar open until December, or Candytopia, a pop-up candy museum in the Aventura Mall. Plus, head to Bar Alter’s late-night pop-up cafe and club, Minnie’s Disco, and kick off St John Art Week with the Progressive Art Brunch.

Candytopia in the Aventura Mall

What do Prince, Frank Sinatra, a unicorn and the Sphinx have in common? They are all on display – in candy form – at Candytopia, the candy-centric popup that opens today in the Aventura Mall. The “adventure adventure” runs through the holiday season and shows sculptures and framed art – all made from real sweets. The mini theme park also has an interactive app that, once downloaded, sends images from various displays directly to your email address. And of course, like any theme park, your Candytopia trip ends in a gift shop where you can buy branded t-shirts, pens and other candy. Until January 26, 2020 in the Treats Food Hall in the Aventura Mall; 19501 Biscayne Blvd., Aventura; candytopia.com. Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets via candytopia.com cost $ 20 to $ 28.

Minnie’s disco in the Alter Bar

Wynwood’s Alter Bar takes you back in time with Minnie’s Disco, a pop-up café and club. Minnie’s was designed by St John nightlife veterans the Baum brothers (Sam and Max) and is inspired by their nights out in Paris, Spain, Japan and many cities in the US, as well as the infamous Mancuso loft parties. Chef Brad Kilgore serves up light bites and classic cocktails while funky dance music plays well into the night. 223 NW 23rd St, St John; instagram.com.

Progressive type brunch in different locations

Kick off St John Art Week with brunch and contemporary art in a curated setting. The public event was conceived by Mindy Solomon and the people at Progressive Art Brunch, who bring the participating galleries together on several Sundays throughout the year. The event illuminates the program at each participating venue and gives visitors a closer look at the exhibitions on display. The galleries are located in the Performing Arts, Little Haiti, and Little River Arts districts. A shuttle bus offers transport options. Visit each gallery for a selection of light brunch dishes paired with a selection of wines from Rioja, Spain. Sunday, December 1st, 11am, various locations; progressiveartbrunch.com. Free entry.
