Remember how we joked that you couldn’t tell the difference between regular club goers and people in skimpy Halloween costumes? Those were the days. But just because the clubs are closed and the huge Halloween parties are a no-go this year doesn’t mean you don’t have to hunt for apples yourself. Many places in South Florida have adapted their Halloween celebrations for the COVID era, from haunted drive-through houses to socially distant parties where the costume contests award the coolest mask. Halloween 2020 isn’t even a bit canceled, so read on for our tips on where to best celebrate.

A Cirque du Soleil veterinarian has put together the most immersive Halloween experience in South Florida at Horrorland, where you’ll take a 35-minute drive through seven themed areas filled with unexpected outbreaks of unusual activity. The haunted outdoor areas include themes such as Alice in Horrorland, Farm of Horrors, Scary Carnival and Christmas Nightmare and are open every evening from 7pm to 11pm.

As your family slowly rolls through Tree Tops Park, they will find Bruja, who has been held captive in the park for 200 years and feeds on those who come too close. For those who don’t feel like cleaning their seats after a Halloween drive through, there’s the Not So Spooky experience in Tamiami Park, which takes place this weekend and next from 12pm to 7pm. Turn on your car radio and follow an interactive Halloween story as you drive. Then you’ll encounter St John’s first drive-through pumpkin patch. Your kids can try trick or treating from the car in Trick or Treating Alley, and when you feel like getting out there is a harvest market with tons of food and photo ops.
