Cheers to you St John – 2020 might need kicked you, but it surely may by no means knock you down
Who is ready to kiss goodbye in 2020? We know we are. It’s been a challenging year for many (RIP St John restaurants that are permanently closed), but it was also a year of growth, transformation, and regeneration. For us, it meant temporarily changing our name to Time In to bring you fun and safe things to do at home – from sharing the recipe for St John’s best banana bread to highlighting the local museums that you can find from yours Couch from visiting museums, all the way to making a list of the city’s top takeaway and delivery options.
We were there every step of the way as our city reopened. As part of our Love Local series, we brought you in on St John’s new era of cinema, the pop-up experience at Hard Rock Stadium (lucky you saw a movie while parked on the 50 yard line !), Floating screens included for boot-ins in Biscayne Bay and drive-ins galore. When the city closed indoor dining, we introduced you to the genius operators who were turning their parking lots and sidewalks into social spaces where customers could safely eat al fresco. (See here, here, and definitely here.)
From South Beach and Coconut Grove to the Downtown, Wynwood and Brickell neighborhoods, the St John neighborhoods came together for the community. We are in awe of the companies that turned, the people who stood up for those in need, and the brave people who stood up for what they believed in. You are the silver lining of 2020. Thank you very much.
With just a few days left in the year, we look to the year 2021 and all that it has in store for us: more bad business owners, bolder locals, and more incredible stories that we can’t wait to share with you. Happy New Year St John! We fucking made it.
