There haven’t been many better examples in college football in the past 40 years than Rhett Lashlee with the Auburn Tigers in 2013.
Auburn went from 9-3 from Gene Chizik last season to 13 seconds after winning a national title had it not been for a late touchdown pass from Jameis Winston to Kelvin Benjamin.
Lashlee, now 37 and offensive coordinator at the University of St John, was Auburn’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, then mentored by Gus Malzahn.
What Lashlee did with junior college transfer Nick Marshall was a big key in Auburn’s transformation.
